Ministry Opportunities

We have a multitude of opportunities for you to serve yourself, your church, and your community!

Do you like books?  Perhaps our Library team would pique your interest.  Maybe you have a flair for design?  How about checking out our Worship Environment Team?  Do you knit or crochet?  How about sewing?  You might be interested in joining the Prayer Shawl Ministry, or the Quilters.  Maybe you like public speaking.  Being a Liturgist might be right up your alley.  Do you make a great cup of coffee?  Then we could use your help on Sunday mornings because we go through a whole lot of it!

There is no job too big or too small in the Woodland UMC.  There is a place for everyone!

This is also a great opportunity for your teens to get some of those much-needed community service hours!

Check out some of the ministries below and see what strikes your interest.

Adult Education and Small Group Leaders

Members of this team are trained in leading classes and small groups and will help facilitate our growing number of small group experiences.

Amnesty International

Since 1982, our church has participated in Amnesty International's (AI) Urgent Action Network.  On the fourth Sunday of every month, members of the congregation are given the opportunity to write letters on behalf of an individual or group somewhere in the world whose human rights are being violated.  The Amnesty Ministry Team educates the congregation regarding the various cases and assists people with the writing of original letters, or the signing of pre-printed letters addressed to governmental officials on behalf of the prisoners.

For more information on Amnesty International, see their website:

Care & Repair - Board of Trustees

This team undertakes repair and maintenance tasks around the church.

It is great for those with handy skills who can help keep our historic building in good repair.

There are tasks for just about every skill level, and you do not need to be a Trustee to attend.

Children's Ministry

Sunday School teachers and the Children's Ministry Coordinator are the members of this team.

They teach the Sunday morning classes of children ages preschool through sixth grade.

Music is a vital ministry in our worship.  We have choirs for adults, as well as handbell players.

Each choir participates in worship services.  Please visit our Music Ministry page for more information.

Communion Stewards

The Communion Stewards prepare and assist in serving the elements for our monthly communion services.

Some members of the team also minister to the homebound by taking Communion to them.

Congregational Care & Connection Team (CCCT)
This team of people shares by regularly reaching out to folks of the church family in order to stay connected.  Noting birthdays, anniversaries, and times of concern as well as sending greetings to each household allows for a web of God’s care to extend to all.

Fellowship Hall Setup / Teardown

This team consists of people who can help set up tables and chairs for events in the Fellowship Hall.

We have greeters who welcome worshipers and seek to make newcomers feel at home among us at our 10 a.m. service.

If you are interested in becoming a greeter, please contact the church office.

Hospitality and New Members

Extending a warm welcome to newcomers, and to all who come to worship on Sunday morning is the business of this team.

Members of this ministry team seek to help new members of the church find their way to feel this is really their church home.

They keep in touch with new members and assist with the orientation and reception of new members.

Kitchen Upkeep & Coffee Team

The kitchen of our church is used by many groups and is an important part of our facility.

This team provides for the care and development of this resource.  They also make sure that we have coffee for Fellowship Hour.

Latino Ministries

Beginning in July 2023, our church is beginning a new Latino outreach program led by Pastor A. Joe Gonzales.
If you would like to be involved, please contact the church office.

The Library team oversees the church library, seeks additions, and then promotes reading in the church.

Live Stream Team

In the wake of COVID-19, we have made great advancements in our live stream capabilities.  This is an exciting opportunity to learn new technologies and to help us share Woodland UMC with the world.  On-the-job training is provided, however, one should have an advanced understanding of computers and the internet.

Mass Mailing Team

From time to time, the office will send out letters to the entire congregation.  For one person, this can be an all-day endeavor.

But as the saying goes, "many hands make light work."

This team staffs the church nursery for infants and toddlers (to age 3) and keeps the nursery safe and welcoming for young children.

All volunteers are required to complete the Safe Gatherings training prior to serving in the nursery.

Prayer Shawl Ministry  (NOTE:  In-person meetings were canceled due to COVID-19, but we are still creating shawls)

We craft our shawls with prayers and love and are blessed to be able to provide them to people in need.

Quilters Team

We make baby quilts for infant baptisms and pillow shams for young children who are baptized, and for high school graduates.

Through generous planned gifts, as well as several fundraising events throughout the year, the church has an endowment that produces income to be used to assist church people with their education.  This team oversees the scholarship granting process.

Scripture Readers

We read the scripture during our Sunday morning service.

Sound Team

The team members share responsibility for the sound monitoring process during worship services.  This includes monitoring sound for our live online content as well.  Additional sound duties can include weddings, funerals, and other services in the church.

Complete training is provided.

The usher team is divided into separate teams for each Sunday.  They help welcome people to worship, hand out bulletins,

take the offering, and generally see to the comfort and safety of all who come to worship.  If you are interested in becoming an Usher,

please contact the church office.

Video Technology Team

Video technicians make a great difference in our services.  On-the-job training is provided, however one should have a basic understanding of computers as well as PowerPoint.

Worship Environment

As we worship through the seasons, this team changes the appearance of our worship space.

They create and hang banners, change the paraments, and other creative ways to lift up the themes of our worship.
