Personal Care Pantry
Recognizing a growing need in our community, Christine Hermsmeyer and Jessica Wright founded the Personal Care Pantry at Woodland United Methodist Church in April 2015. Their vision was simple but important: to help neighbors access essential personal and family hygiene items that are often difficult to afford and are not covered by food assistance programs. The Pantry's first distribution, held in May 2015, served 47 families.
Over the years, the Personal Care Pantry has become a powerful example of compassion in action. In late 2016, leadership of the ministry transitioned to Shanna Baggaley, whose dedication and service helped the Pantry grow and thrive until her passing in 2020. Julie Stephens and Guyda Sheline then stepped forward to continue this vital ministry. With the support of dedicated volunteers and generous donors, the Pantry has expanded its reach and impact, serving hundreds of individuals and families each month.
On the first Thursday of every month, the Personal Care Pantry provides essential household and hygiene products free of charge. Available items may include shampoo, toothpaste, laundry detergent, dish soap, first aid supplies, incontinence products, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, and other personal care necessities.
Donations of personal care and household hygiene items are always welcome and may be dropped off at the church office. Through the generosity of our community, we are able to continue sharing God's love by meeting practical needs and supporting our neighbors with dignity and care.
Thanks to our partnership with the Yolo Diaper Bank, we can also supply diapers.

Each month, the Personal Care Pantry serves at least 175 individuals in our community. Through the distribution of supplies to partner organizations and outreach programs, the Pantry's reach extends far beyond those who visit in person. For every individual served at the Pantry, three or more additional people receive assistance off-site. Many of those impacted by this ministry are families with young children, including infants and toddlers under the age of three.
